i can agree napa is behind on the times. it seamed like it just took them forever to even have a plan·o·gram on their shelves, some of their stores are small and afaik their computers arnt linked as far as national warranties are. but the thing that helps them out is most times they know their parts and how to use the paper catalog when i need help

to compete with the much lower prices they had to offer cheaper parts.

You must be referring to the $280 compressor. I bought the $185 one. I can buy an OE Delco compressor from Rock Auto for $170, so Napa just doesn't make sense.

The last straw for me was a starter. I bought a starter from them that pooped out in a week and left me stranded. I took it back and asked them to bench test the replacement before I took it home. It failed. The next one they brought out was broken in the box with a cracked case. Finally on the fourth starter, I got a good one. I do my own work because I want it done right the first time. I don't have time or patience for that jazz.

if they only offered you a 280 compressor something was wrong. i imagine youre talking about the 89 v2500 burb and the lt r4 4.25 pulley compressor. which according to NAPAs website theres 4 to choose from prices are 174, 179, 179, and 274. granted theres no delco but each place will have its downfall, with rock auto you have to pay shipping from each location they ship from. my main thing is time = money, meaning if i have to wait on a part it can cost me more than what im saving. if napa doesnt have it i go to autozone if i need it that day.

each brand will have quality issues and just like youve had bad experience with NAPAs quality i havent. this is just like ford vs chevy vs dodge. each person has their reasons and most will swear the other is crap. if all a company does is give bad parts out they will go out of business and like vile said they have to adapt or they will die out. NAPA imo will die if they dont change, the reasons i like them is whats killing them. but i think they can be saved but they will almost have to be ran like autozone and advance and catch up with the times. i dont agree with their warranty rules for example theres no digital record, you have to have a receipt. i dont keep receipts  and even if i do if im out on the road and i need a new part i know im take bringing receipts with me wherever i go

I bought a new compressor, which narrows it down to two choices, the one I bought and the $280 one. I was comparing apples to apples with Rock Auto. Sorry if that was confusing.

One thing that shocked me about NAPA, was i went to one on the ES (though probably not the one IA goes to) and ordered an alternator-----and they didn't ask me to put any money down!    And they didn't know me---that was the first time i had ever walked into that store!
