i'm looking for something quiter and lighter, and of course don't want to spend a bunch. i'm not a 'power window expert' so i don't know what would/wouldn't work. anyone have ideas on this? would i need a truck motor or would a car one work?

There are 2 styles of motors 77-81 and 82-91. The older motors have the reputation of being stronger, but... They are more expensive. The later models are lighter, but as for quieter, you probably want to insulate your doors if you think they are loud.

i was thinking of putting in a completely different vehicle motor if it was possible. basically like the power window kits you can buy, but just gutting out a newer vehicle door for the parts

That I don't know about. The regulator has to match the tracks in the door vs the window. Most of the aftermarket kits use the same basic stuff.
That is what our Electric Life kits do:

For how problematic and expensive the factory setup can be, let alone how complicated and heavy the setup is, I've pondered taking my factory power window assembly out, putting in a manual window assemby and using an aftermarket power window kit.
