Got my first square

Ok guys I just picked up my first square. 85 gmc short bed. I come from the late Fbody scene so I'm use to fuel injection and newer technology, and have zero experience with older vehicles and non computerized cars. What are some on the must do's on these? I want to drop it but not a lot because I want to daily drive it and not worry about anything. The truck just seems sloppy. I think it has original shock so hopefully new ones make a big difference. Also seems like motor runs rough. Carbureted motors just that way? Where do I start checking that out?
