Can I add dual tanks to a K30?
« on: October 25, 2017, 11:32:48 am »
I have a 84 K30 Dually with service box. It has the 454 and a THM400. The stock fuel tank is about 20 gal. As you can imagine this gives the truck a terrible range. I want to use it to tow my 30 ft travel trailer (34ft with tongue).
Was there a dual tank option, or what would be my best bet to add more range to the truck? (other than Jerry Cans in the bed)

your probably seeing 8 mpgs in that things. a tank will get you about 160 miles, you can add dual tanks but you need the hangers, tank valve, switch and wiring. then youll be doubling your range. with all those parts it might/will be easier to have the donor so you can get all the wires, valve and switch. never seen a kit for this, i imagine you could rig some sort of switch up with some sort of valve or pump to transfer from one tank to the other.

even then i think youll be more satisfied with an OD trans and thats cause that trans will pay for itself over sometime. may take years but even if you get a 2mpg increase that boost your range from 160 to 200. thats a 25% increase in MPGs and you might be able to get even more than that.

I would look into the 40 gallon tank for suburbans, and also for an overdrive trans(4l80E) you'll enjoy it more.

If you don’t mind putting your spare tire in the bed you can get a rear tank kit from   and also get the other side tank while you are there but none of that is going to make a difference in fuel mileage. You really need to think about getting an overdrive tranny
