electric choke
« on: February 17, 2006, 12:36:00 pm »
ok here is my problem. My truck had a manual choke installed and i replaced it with an electric one. I know there is power to the choke and that the choke coil works, but my truck runs very rough or not at all unless i prop open the choke plates. I noticed there is a vacuum port on the choke housing but it is curently pluged off. Does anyone have any idea where this port goes to and if it has anything to do with my truck running rough? It is an 84 gmc sierra with a 305 and a 700r4. Any help would be appreciated
Sheldon

I converted my stock hot air-style choke into a manual choke, so I've ran into this. The vacuum line coming of the choke goes into the intake manifold. This participates into opening the choke. Thats good that its plugged off. That will not make your idle rough. I would guess that your choke is near closed, thats my guess on the rough idle. It should be open only a 1/4 inch. Then as choke and truck warms up, it should be fully open or close to fully open. I'm thinkin your choke might need adjusted. Thats just my input, lol, MARK

Thanks for the reply and you were right. I actually figured it out a while ago that choke was out of adjustment. All I had to do was loosen it off and turn it counterclockwise and it worked great. Thanks for the info about the vaccum port though. I appreciate it.
