rearend swap
« on: August 03, 2006, 11:32:00 PM »
i am going to swap out a 10 bolt rearend to a 12 bolt rearend out of a 78 big 10 into my 86 c10 silverado and i have a few ?'s.  Is the overall length going to be the same, will it bolt right up to my leaf springs or will mods be required, and if there is anything else that someone might think of that will be appreciated as well.

'86 C10 Silverado 350 with 700r4 and 2500 stall
Dropped 2" in front and 2" in rear but soon to b 4" in rear

It will bolt right in.  Problems will be with the Pinion Yoke not matching your driveshaft.

You would have to change the driveshaft or have a driveline guy customize your existing.

A new U-Joint also.

Ditto on above.
You also may be able to get a hybrid u-joint and make it work also.
