1986 Transmission with wires torque converter lock up?
«

I have a 86 Chevy c10 that had 305 but was converted to 350.
I am attempting to hook up my torque converter lock up switch. I do not know the appropriate area to get vacuum to it.
I also do not know what type of trans i have. It is my understanding I have wires going to my tranny, problem is I can look under truck at the moment.

Hey man, gotta start with basics.
You need to know what type of trans you have before anyone can help you.
Take pics and post, that is a good start.

Yeah, good point, I do not know what I have as I cannot crawl under truck at the moment where it is parked. I know it cant be a 400 I assume since it had a 305 originally.

If you have wiring going to the trans, it might be a 700r 4 speed with overdrive. A good one to have! If you can snap a pic from both profiles I'm sure someone on this forum can help you ID.

What does the gear selector on the column look like? A 700 would have the D in a circle.

The D has more like a square around it, I assume that is the circle you speak of?

I think that's it. If it's not Overdrive there is no circle/square.

Ok, I threw cardboard down, and braved the tall grass to see I have a square pan trans. That according to what was said above, and my book indicates a 700-R4.
I "found out" I have a lock up torque converter...I do not believe it was hooked up. I have the lock up switch/Vacuum thing on the firewall. I have to plug that into the carb to get the correct vacuum do make this work?
I also noticed there is a "Boot" looking connection hanging down under truck on right side.
What is yall's thought to those 2 items?
Thank you.

Ok I think I figured it out. The lock up converter is connected electrically on the left side of trans.

Good job Harmon!
I have transmission envy... would love to have one like it on my K10.
I got nothin on where to hook up your electric or vacuum, look to the other guys on this forum to assist. They are a great resource.
BTW, the search engine is pretty potent; use it for vac diagrams, as well as electric.
