Vacuum Firewall? Where do these go? And other questions.
« on: August 18, 2006, 07:02:00 pm »
85 Chevy C10 5.0L.  A/C, Cruise.

Recently bought this truck with the junk carb off intake and vacuum lines all disconnected, most lines MIA.  No EGR.
Has an edelbrock intake so...

I got a Edelbrock 600 cfm electric choke.

Hooked up the vacuum lines from canister...except carb bowl vapor line.  Capped it off.

Hooked up distributor to carb for vacuum advance on passenger side on front.  Capped drivers side manifold port on front.

No lines connected to TVS or other switches on water neck.

I am left with the following two vacuum lines.

Above Transmission Dipstick on Firewall mounted electrical thing with yellow and brown wire connected to vacuum line.
What is this and where does it go?

Behind Brake Booster on Firewall another electrical type thing with vacuum line with check valve.  I think it is a check valve.  What is this for and where does it go?

No open ports left so not sure if I should just hook to manifold port on carb and t them in.

No E-checks, but have cats.

If E-checks ever come back, what are the odds of me passing?

Will I run into driveability issues or do I need to try and rape a bone yard for all the vacuum stuff?

I noticed transmission slips when first put in gear. Once rolling seems fine.  Is this related to vacuum?

Sorry, I know this is a lot of questions.  But I am excited about getting this thing on the road.

Thanks,
David

I'll try to get my pictures up ASAP;  I have an 83 WITH ALL the stock vacuum lines hooked up.

Give me about 4-5 days.

Thanks. Look forward to the pics.
Went ahead and hooked up the vacuum lines with a T fitting to the manifold vacuum port on the carb.
Can't tell that it did anything.
I wonder what they are for?

Well, here goes;  I don't know;  easier said than done.

Now, mine is an 83, but yours should be similar.

What exactly are you trying to do?  Is the truck not running right now?  This is kind of complicated;  What i suggest for you and me is to get a factory service manual---try E-bay.  The exact diagrams will be in there.

The other thing is that there should be a sticker right in front of the radiator that has a diagram/map of where and how all the hoses should go:  and i'll try to get a clearer picture of it:

2)Where do you live?  If you don't have emmissions, then half those hoses don't need to be there.

Oh, i mis-read your question;  I will look for those two wires and make notes probably tommorow.
