1987 350 V8.....

About how much total (horse power & torque) did a factory stock 1987 General Motors 5.7liter throttle-body fuel injected (Push-Rod) 350 V8, produce??? I just need the hp & torque output for the engine, not the hp & torque output to the rear wheels. I have had so many people tell so many different hp & torque ratings till I don’t know which is the right answer…. The engine is in a ’87 Chevy (full-size) half-ton 4X4 pickup. I figured someone here that knew more about these trucks, could answer this question. Thanks.

Get the suffix code off of the engine.  It is located in front of the passenger side head under the alternator.  It will be 2 or 3 letters following a series of numbers.  Then, go to Mortec.com(you may have to google it to get it to work).  Then look under "small block chevrolet casting codes".  You have gotten many figures because these engines were built with MANY different HP and Torque ratings... more than I can count.  My 76 was a factory 145HP, ~240 LB/Ft torque engine.

A 1987 5.7 would be a L05 motor.  It made 210hp @ 4000 and 300lb/ft @2800.  

There were 2 versions of this motor though 8500GVWR and below and above.  The above 8500 model made the same torque, but 195hp@4000 and was only availible for HD vehicles.  It also has less compression.
