Thanks. It's coming along. I'm more looking forward to getting it done and out of my way more than anything. My projects are all on hold again because of this thing !  ???

Wow, I haven't updated this in a while. I completed the nose, hood, fenders etc. I'll have to get some pix updated. I started working on the bed and as we all know, the LH fender isn't available with gas tank door still so I had to retrofit this one. Came out really nice, needs minor fine tuning but the brunt of it is done.

Wow, nice work!

From what I see, do you fit the add from behind the fender? And then weld and fill?

I'm patching a rust hole in a front fender, have the 'rust panel' replacement with the factory curve, but wasn't sure just how to "patch"...

I cut the section out of the donor, sandblasted it, and patched about 20 small holes. Once I had the piece prepped, I ran it across my bead roller on 3 sides to make a flange. The side with the finger well is too close to the seam to do that so that section is flush. I traced the part, transferred it to the panel, cut the hole, and fit it perfectly into the opening. I initially welded it with silicon bronze, clamping it while moving around. I finished it with carbon steel and after grinding it skimmed it with glass, body filler, icing, and filler primer. Honestly, after I finished grinding, you couldn't even tell it was welded. Very happy with how it came out. The most important part of welding patches is not distorting the panel. Use small but good bursts being careful not to overheat the metal (move around). A good alternative to welding, if possible is 3M panel bond.

Some updates, I have everything done except the box which I finished fixing today, seal primed and just about ready for paint.











froto, just saw your question. The silicon bronze is like MIG Brazing, instead of torch brazing. There were lots of pinholes!

I have other spools of stainless, aluminum, etc, and a spool gun, but I'll be honest, I've never used the spool gun and it's still in the package where it has been for the last 10 years. For anything other than carbon steel or silicon bronze, I use my TIG welder. I keep Argon, Argon CO2, Helium, Oxygen, and Acetylene in stock. I also have a B-tank and MAP gas so this stuff hogs up real estate. Changing bottles, liners, tips, and sleeves is too much of a nuisance.

I did all of the bodywork and paint, it's EBB Monarch Orange. My goal is to get the bed on today and work on wrapping this thing up so that I can get back on my own projects.
