Headers clutch slave cylinder
« on: April 29, 2020, 09:27:15 am »
1985 K20 manual transmission. I just installed my second clutch slave cylinder in 2.5 years. Both gradually would not deploy the piston. Reservoir full but with very dark fluid. My strong suspicion what is causing the failure is the high temp from long tube headers that were installed. There is only about 2 inches separating the slave cylinder from the header.  I am thinking of making a heat shield to separate the two or heat wrapping the header or both. What have fellow members done & do you have any pics of your heat shield?

I would get one of those cut to fit starter blankets to wrap the slave in. It's a shiny foil like fiberglass blanket. They work very well. Trim it to fit maybe you can wrap it around the slave a few times some of them are fairly large.

I would use exhaust wrap on the header too in that area

Thanks FlarBack77 for advice. I figured I would need to wrap the header but the recommendation of modifying the starter blanket is a great suggestion. I’m going to order one today. Thanks
