Stock motor mount Max Hp / Tq
« on: June 18, 2020, 12:03:49 PM »
Hello all,

I'm overhauling my 1980 1/2 ton 2wd Shortbox. Building a new powerplant, wondering if my motor mounts will hold or if it's the time for a stronger setup.

I currently have the stock mount setup upgraded with poly clamshell inserts.  Does anyone have a rough idea of what a stock setup like this will hold?  Old motor was 400 hp / 400 ft.lbs with no issues so far, the new motor is in the 500 hp / 550 ft.lbs range.  The truck has a strong driveline and does hook up decent so it's not just a tire spinner.

I can't seem to find a pre-fabed kit for a 73-87 so any knowledge of one, or real world failures (and their ballpark tq.) is appreciated.

While not a drag racer, I can only comment on what I haven't heard of is motor mount failures.  The design of it is so much better than the 67-72 which did have failures.  I've had well over 100 of these and been in the hobby for 25+years.  Never heard of an issue

That's a good way of looking at it, thanks
