Rust converter on frame?

I have the body off my 79 k20 and have needle scaled and wire wheeled most of the frame and still have surface rust on most of the frame. I will be pulling the spring mounts and all crossmembers and cleaning under those as well. Just wondering if any one has used a rust converter on there frame and then coated over top with por 15 or something similar. Or would you guys recommenced just using a product like por 15 on the frame as is. Also what products do you guys recommend I don’t need it to be perfect just want something that won’t peel or flake

There is a lot of different opinions on this stuff. I have tried various rust converter products and not been impressed with any. I also discovered that POR15 needs a very rough or porous surface in order to stick well. I like to use rustoleum from the gallon tubs and mix it fairly thick in my paint sprayer. I use just that over surface rust like you are describing. The rattle cans of rustoleum spray very thin and I haven't had as much success with them.

I used this after treating my frame like you describe.
What do you think?

I have been using KBS products for my build. KBS Klean, then Rust Blaster (takes away the remaining rust). Rust Seal, and then chassis Top Coat. It was applied with a brush.
