Seized up EGR valve (yeah me again!...lol)
« on: December 20, 2006, 03:45:00 pm »
Hey guys,

Sorry for taking up all the board with my questions!...lol

I've been having problems with my valve covers and stuff (mentioned in another post) but, I had to remove my EGR valve to lift out my valve cover and i noticed it's all seized up and doesn't operate any more.

My old truck has been tinkered with so many time that some of the stuff (vacuum lines) aren't used.

The truck seems to still run okay even though the EGR doesn't work. The vacuum line that is supposed to be hooked to it isn't even there anymore. I also have a TVS sensor up by the thermostat housing that has nothing on it.

I'm thinking the long line from my fuel vapor can is supposed to go to the TVS then to the EGR correct? (There are only 2 ports on the TVS - Purple) The line now hangs down by the inner fender.

If i hooked this up again would I notice any difference or should I even bother?

I'm wondering if changing this back the way it should be would screw up the way the truck pumps septic. :\

Hmmmm...dunno...any thoughts?

On another note I've noticed when the truck idles, it will idle perfect for about 10 seconds, then take a 2-3 second lag (Similar to a vacuum valve opening or something - idle drops) then it will idle up normal again.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks for the great info!

Happy Holidays!

Check out this post which is on this same site...

thermal vacuum switch

I'd replace everything the way it is supposed to be, personally.  I did when I dropped in 383 stroker engine.  I put a new egr and all new lines, thermal vacuum valve, etc....

I had the fortune of taking digital pics of everything as I was removing them so it was easy for me.

As for where the line for the egr goes, your best bet would be to get the schematics for your year vehicle.
