quadrajet secondaries

i rebuild a quadrajet carb and it seems like the secondaries arent opening up like they did before i rebuilt it. what could the problem be. there is spring tension on the upper butterfly and i converted it to manual choke .

or this ones cheaper- same book http://www.themotorbookstore.com/howtoreandmo1.html one of the chapters is just about Quadrajet secondary metering rods

The secondaries air butterflies ( the top ones )have a spring adjustment where the lockout rod connecte to them. You can adjust them to get the feel you want. Adjust is very small amounts because the spring is sensitive and too much and you will have a time getting them back to where they were. All you need is an allen wrench and a small flathead screwdriver to do this.
Also check to see if the secondary lock out rod is able to move freely. This cound be a problem area since you converted it to a manual choke. When the choke is on the secondaries are locked out with a pin attached to the secondary butter flies. You can cut this off i you do not want the lock out to work.
