73-79 gas cap
« on: June 03, 2021, 01:29:21 pm »
Hello all, I would like to know if anybody knows where to get an original, either new or used paintable or painted gas cap for a 78 c10.  I've searched for hours on the internet and can only find plastic, locking, or otherwise non original caps.   Mine has been lost for years and I've used a chrome one but my truck came with a plain painted cap.   I remember painting the truck back in 1987 and painted the cap also, even the horizontal bar in the center that you grab was painted, not black plastic like the ones I'm looking at.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Is there a difference between a step and fleet side cap? I bought a metal one at Azone for my step, it was chrome. Doesn't have a 'bar'...

MotoRad MGC-800 is the one I got for my truck. I have fleetside no door. The fleetside with door I don't know about. Step side could be different also.

Thanks for the reply.  I believe that is chrome with plastic handle also.   Seems very hard to find an original painted cap.

Well the only one I found that looks original is plastic, I found on ebay.   it fits and looks like a metal cap.   I would still like an original metal cap if anyone has one.

The black part is plastic. I lightly sanded with fine emery cloth, painted and looks good. This one works great if you have a flleetside with no door. This was painted 3 years ago.
