Fuel gauge only shows quarter tank when full
« on: January 04, 2007, 01:04:00 pm »
My fuel gauge is only showing a quarter of a tank when it's actually a full tank.  Basically it seems to only be using the last quarter area on the fuel gauge because it takes a long time for it to get to empty.  Is this in the tank or in the gauge?

Since this is a Blazer testing it will be a pain.

If you want to check to see if the guage is working take the wire off at the sending unit, ground it to something and with the ignition on it should read empty.  Without being grounded it should go past full.

My tank is doing this, too.  Shows about 3/8 of a tank when completely full, then drops to 1/4, then slowly goes down to just below E when it's empty.

I just put a label with the letter F over the 3/8 area, and put black tape over the 1/2 and F.

Unless this tank starts leaking I'm not going to bother to pull it to check this out.  If I *DO* get a leaky tank, it's getting a new tank, new sending unit, new sock, new lines, everything...*THEN* it should work properly.
