AC Compressor went out today
« on: July 02, 2022, 02:43:11 PM »
My A6 compressor has bit the dust again. Last time replaced was  8/23/2019.  Not sure if I want to use another rebuilt one or go with another style. Found this website and wondered if anyone has used one of these before.
If anyone has had good luck with another brand, please let me know.

Sanden compressors are fantastic!  Tough, very adaptable, polishable (if you're into that), and most importantly, very efficient.

I have heard about sanden compressors. This link states Sanden Style. Not sure who actually makes it.

I really don't like remanufactured now. Many years ago they were really good because there was quality in them. Now, it is mass produced and not to high quality. New is the better way to go. I may go the route of the link in my first post. Not wanting to do the A6 reman again.

Add to the fact that A6 and R4 compressors were made for R12, which operates at lower head pressure than R134 does, reman stuff doesn't stand a chance for longevity.

UPDATE:

Decided to bite the bullet and get the kit that I posted the link to in my first post. A bit pricey, but my AC tech had no problems installing. This unit cools a whole lot better than the old A6 ever did. When I drive it to work, it sits in the sun till 3:00. Temp is near 100. 12 mile drive home thermometer in vent shows around 50 degrees by the time I get home. Also, a lot less drag on engine. I recommend it if anyone wants to upgrade!
