Radiator Fluid
« on: March 29, 2007, 09:29:00 pm »
Hey, i have a 78' 400 6.6l and lately it seems like im going through alot of radiator fluid.  I will start the truck up in the morning without any smoke and drive it 5 miles without smoking.  I will park it that night and ill check my radiator and the fluid level has already dropped!  I looked for leaks but nothing so could this be a bad gasket or what?!?

catch the oil in your oil pan.  Look at it closely,  see if you have antifreeze in oil.  Oil and water dont mix...it should be easy to see.

Check the gasket around you water pump after running engige.  Check gasket around thermostadt too.  PUt cardboard under truck and let her run for a while.  Look for any puddles.

Does your guage show running hot any?  Is it going back into your resevoir?  Leaks in the hose?  Does it have the hose going from radiator cap to resevoir? Or does the over fill runn down the radiator(no hose)?

just a few things to keep in mind.
