Just joined after recently acquiring my first squarebody - 1985 K20, manual trans). I was told it was a fire station truck in South Carolina. I have wanted a squarebody for many years after riding in my uncle's truck in 1986.
Truck is in good shape in terms of rust...body has one spot - cab corner - about the size of two quarters. Frame has virtually no rust. The body however has hail damage so thinking I will try my hand at body work. Additionally, the roof has a spot in the front corner that looks like a meteorite hit it. That will be a challenge. Engine is out of a 72-73-74 A or F body per the codes.
Fuel delivery was an issue so my first step was to diagnose and by doing that I replaced the tank, sending unit, soft hoses and fuel pump. Runs ok now. I had taken the bed off to make access easier so I took advantage of that and sandblasted (actually pressure washer sandblasted with the cheap Amazon nozzle - worked well) and POR15'd both the frame and the entire underside of the bed.
Now will start on the interior and work my way to the engine at some point.
Happy to be here.
