Surface rust

Hello all. Newbie here. Just recently picked up a ‘77 C20 Scottsdale. I completely underestimated how much I’d fall in love with this thing.
It’s got some surface rust that appears to be superficial. I’d like to keep it that way. It’s got a great look and I’m not interested at this time in painting. What are you guys doing to prevent progression and keep this surface stuff in check?

Are you wanting to keep it looking like it is?  Patina?
Anything you add will make it shiny.  Sweet Patina is owned by a friend of mine, I haven't ever used it as I just wax mine.
I do have a 68 that is "rusty" patina, I am probably going to go over it with Comet and then CLR to see what happens and then probably wax it.


I guess it depends on what you want it to look like.

Hello and thanks for the response. I’ve looked at some of the patina products and it’s definitely a cool look. I’m not looking for high gloss/shiny. Just kinda something to spruce up the dull areas and prevent the rust from worsening.

I’ll check out the sweet patina product. I do love the fully restored look, all shiny and new looking, but don’t think it’s for me and this truck. I like the idea of it showing its years and experience.  Just like me, lol.

I’m assuming the scrub, CLR, and wax delays rust by blocking direct contact of the metal with water?

For the undercarriage, I was leaning towards a lanolin product, based purely on a convincing argument I read somewhere about its ability to not chip and flake and “self heal.”  I guess the drawback is gumming it up for future repairs/work underneath?
