If you are having door/hinge problems, go ahead and fix them now, not latter like I did. The doors on my ol classic have been in bad shape for YEARS and I just let it go. But just the other day my brother in law and me started working on them. After about one hour, a few washers to go between door & hinges, two new strickers and some good lube - they now work better than they did back in the 70's

. So it don't pay to wait on those little maintner items.

Ah, C'mon, do it right. Washers b/w the door and hinge isn't fixing the problem. Your hinge pin will still be wearing into the metal on the hinge, requiring a new hinge later. Get the right fix kit to get the new spacers/pins and rebuild the hinge. It only take about an hour or so if you don't already have to resize the hinge by drilling a bigger hole in it, if it has started the oval out. You can get an oversize kit for it too.

Putting washers b/w the door and hinge only covers the problem up.

You can go to the HELP center of any auto parts store and get the right GM hinge kit.

Thanks for the info but the hinges are still in good shape with very little if any slack in them. Reckon about 95% of the problem was wore out strickers and clean & lube all parts.

If your pins/bushings look good, I would say your hinges need adjustment. Loosen the bolts holding the lower and upper hinges and have someone move the door up/down and retighten the bolts.

The only tricky thing is that one bolt on the upper hinge must be loosened/tightened from the inside under the dash behind the instrument cluster's left a/c vent. Nothing is made too easy.

You shouldn't need to put washers on your hinges. If your striker wore out, I do believe your hinges need adjustments.

What about the door pin bushings?

based on that, the bushing may be good if no slack. Simple adjustment is needed.
