Vortec Heads

I am rebuilding a 350 to go in my 1985 4wd and I am thinking of using some Vortec heads on it. What I need to know is how much would a set of used ones cost and where I can find them? Any info would help and I'm on a tight budget.

I have been looking into this for my engine build up.  GM Performance wants about $550 for a set of complete new Vortec heads.  I would say that around $300 would be about right for used heads.  As a note, you should replace the valve springs on stock Vortec heads.  They dont work well with carburated cams in these older engines.

I think you have to buy a vortec style intake if you switch to vortec heads. In Jegs a vortec intake is about $300. I think it would be a pretty good idea. I thought about doing it myself.

In Jegs, they have brand new vortec cast iron heads, they run $256.99, and they also have aluminum vortec heads, which run $599.99, but if I were you and went the aluminum route, I'd get a set of edelbrock e-tec series heads which are a vortec design but better and cheaper than gm.  The e-tech run $519.99 for 170/65cc ports, and $549.99 for 200/78cc ports.  The GM manifold is a little pricy, so I'd go with an edelbrock vortec manifold for $173.99, that's for the performer rpm which will mate up to a square bore.
