Question about transfer cases?
« on: February 17, 2004, 10:28:00 pm »
Hello guys I'm new to the site, I was wondering how do I tell what transfer case I have? I'm not really sure what year it is because the truck is a mix of about 4 trucks but I think it's older. What is the best one to have? Mine is in good shape but I woulden't mind putting a gasket kit on it because I'm rebuilding the tranny now. All I know about my transfer case is it's behind a turbo 350, and it's cast iron and it's HEAVY!!!lol Thanks in advance for any advice.

If it is cast iron it is either a NP 205 or NP 203.  If you have full-time four wheel drive then you have the NP 203 and if you have part-time four wheel drive you have a NP 205.  Check out Off Road Design for pictures of each.

73K20, Thanks!!!! I appreciate the help, looks like I have a 205. Now where is a good place to get a gasket kit for it? would a local parts store carry somthing like that or is there a place I can order online? Thanks again for the help.

When I rebuilt my 205 last summer i got the gasket and seal kit from nationaldrivetrain.com.  This kit is cheap and includes both gaskets and seals for the output shafts and shift rails.
