Rochester 4 bbl overhaul
« on: August 12, 2004, 10:59:00 pm »
I've never overhauled a carb before...I'm looking for any tips or tricks to help the job along. Also, how long should this take? I have a decent amount of mechanical aptitiude, but by no means an expert.

Thanks!

There are too many things to post. A good service manual with a carb section on the "quad" will be your best bet.

I also recommend that most times, you should have the base plate re-bushed. Most quads that are due for an overhaul also have worn base plates where the thottle shaft goes through them. They drill out the aluminum bores and press in brass bushings. If this area is worn, a wonderful vacuum leak occurs. Usually runs about $50 at a speed shop or carb shop. Well worth the money. And I agree with truck6driver, get a good manual. Good luck, they aren't that bad. Lou~
