Picked up a 78 scottsdale 2wd, with 4 speed today. I feel kind of bad though, buying it for parts only. It's going to be torn apart when I get it home for the ol' 4wheel drive deluxe. Would make a great fix up truck, the sheet metal is in excellent condition just needs cleaned really good. The inside isn't all that great, but then again i'm not worried about that. The cab is in great shape, no rust around the rocker panels, or cab corners... None that I could see to be honest.

Fantastic! There's nothing as nice as working with rust free parts.

I was looking at the VIN earlier, and saw that it's a "heavy half"/Big 10. I've heard some stuff about them, but could anyone provide anymore information on them? Just curious

The more I think about the truck having the 250 6 cylinder in it the more I want to run it, and still switch parts off it. V8 and gas prices are killing me. I was just curious if anyone knew what's a rough estimate mpg on a 250? I drive my deluxe back and forwth to school, and I have to pay 35-40 bucks a week. Basically I work after school to pay for gas! I drive the truck about 8 miles a day, 12 max. The truck burns so much fuel it's unreal, a little over 7 gallons lasts 2-3 days MAX.

I've seen posts on here asking that question, and the mpg for the 250 wasn't all that much better than a well tuned 350v-8.
Go figure,huh?

To get better mpg, you could put a higher ratio rear end in it. That is the single best thing you can do. If you are ever gonna tow/pull, i wouldn't do that though.
Keep you carb tuned, timing dead on, tires at pressure.
