my 80 once more
« on: February 19, 2007, 02:39:00 am »
here is the link to my truck. it is an ebay link, but the auction had ended. so i am not advertising it for sale here. i decided against selling it after it didnt sell. it shows the dashes direct dash pad i installed. i am overall pleased with the way it fits. i dont really like how the trim pieces fit but other than that it looks good. it also shows the Dakota digital gauges and tuned port injection.
chris, if this is not allowed just delete and let me know.

That thing looks sweet.  I don't blame you for not selling.

Nice TPI setup.  How hard is it to put a TPI motor in one of these? I wouldn't mind a 245 HP TPI 350 from a late-80's or early 90's Iroc/Z28 or a Vette.

85 Chevy Silverado C10 short, wide, yellow, 2wd. Lowered, 60-over 350 with Dart Iron Eagle heads and Comp Cams XE268 cam, TH350 w/ shift kit, 3.40 Gov-lok 12 bolt.

sorry for the delay in replying. i didnt do a full TPI motor swap. i just added the TPI unit and ECM itself. its really not that difficult. i had to drill a big hole in the firewall to run wires from the ecm to the various sensors. you could eliminates this by using an ECM from a 'vette because they were designed to go in the engine bay. i would dedicate a full weekend to the project especially if you have to run new fuel return lines.

Mike, What a fine looking truck.  It's a lot like the way I want to do my Crew Cab K20.  Same color and inside looks if hope to have.  Where did you purchase you Dash Billet and how do you like it? Also, other than H.P.increase what other benefits does your TBI system give you?  Fuel efficiency?

i got the billet dash from a local store that specializes in chevy trucks. i got it to hide the bezel, it looked bad and this piece was cheaper.i lost the bottom screws that came with the billet piece. i dont really like the billet piece and eventually i 'll get an original bezel. as for the TPI unit, it definately added some performance. it has awesome throttle response. right now the gas mileage is horrible. with the carb i was getting 10 mpg in heavy traffic. now i'm getting 7, but i have done no tuning to the computer. i think i can improve drastically once i start programming it. the truck has some really high rear gears and i think that is hurting me badly in Houston traffic. once i feel i got the computer tuned optimally i will experiment with the gearing. i was expecting 15-18 mpg out on the highway because with the carb and 350 tranny i was getting 12 and i thought with the 700 and TPI 15-18 would be easy. but so far it hasn't been there yet.
