74 C-10 upgrade to power brakes
« on: April 18, 2007, 09:43:51 pm »
i just got a 74 C-10 from my nephew, 63000 original miles,350, formally 3 on a tree, now 3 on the floor,..solid underneath... body kinda rough,..but anyway,... no power brakes,..that stinks,..lol. looking for an upgrade to power brakes thru either a kit,..or just some general info from the gurus here. thanks in advance.

btw the next upgrade is hopefully, a HEI and/ or a 5 speed,..but i'll post questions about that later! thanks again.
Yep, it does look like a dang pumpkin!

Welcome from New Hampshire.
Just rob everything from the pedal out off another truck. There is a bolt under the dash that holds the tab for the brake light switch. Once the tab is removed you will see a pin holding the booster rod onto the pedal arm, remove it. Under the hood behind the booster you will find 6 nuts three on either side of the booster bracket. remove them, the vacuum hose, and the brake lines and you have the parts you need. Somtimes cleaning the sound deadener crap off the nuts takes a bit of elbow grease.

i am also wondering about how to go about this...has anyone here actually converted a 73-75 non-power to power? The only bolt holes are the ones for the master cylinder. There aren't any predrilled for the power booster. What do you guys recommend?

I forgot to add that you need to drill two more holes. Also the newer trucks are metric nuts.

Up to 87 yes. 81 / 82 ish they went to an aluminum master cylinder and metric brake line fittings.
