I got my new patch piece epoxied in. The gap is quite small and fits very nicely. I'd say the gap is about 1/16" and for sure less than 1/8" at the top and left sides. The big gap where the rocker meets the cab corner will get seam sealer for sure. The gap along the bottom above the pinch seam is about 1/8". I'm just wondering if I really need to use the $20 can of short-strand filler I bought or if I can use seam sealer along the bottom edge and regular filler for the thin gaps? The depth is as deep as the sheetmetal is thick and the width like I say is about 1/16".  The rust-thru hole on the inner cab corner I'd goop up with more seam sealer. The area has been POR15'd on the inside.

You shouldn't have any gaps. All you should have to fill is the thickness of the sheet metal on all edges where it overlaps the old metal. $20 for a can of glass filler? What size did you get? A quart should be more than enough.

It doesn't overlap, the patch piece almost butts up to the surrounding metal. Its epoxied to metal strips that are in turn epoxied in from behind to make a flush fit. I got some pics I'll upload tomorrow.  Yeah, a small can of Everglas (1 qt.) was $20 at the parts store after tax because I don't know the secret handshake for getting a discount.

As long as there is metal behind the gap. I was thinking it was an open gap. Only time I but weld is on big dollar restorations, other than that I overlap an 1/8 to a 1/4.

Yep, there is metal behind the gap. The only deep gap is between the cab corner and rocker which is factory like that, as far as I know. It had seam sealer in that gap before and I plan to do the same. I know the seam sealer is paintable but is it sandable at all?

I don't think you can sand it. Just lay it down and smooth it out. I believe i just wet my finger and smoothed it before it dried.

I smooth mine out with some lacquer thinner on a rag. And yes it is suposed to be filled with seam seeler.
