spring under swap
« on: May 16, 2007, 05:34:35 pm »
Looking to lower my 87 lwb 2wd. I wanted to go 5 inches in the rear. 3 in the front. But I'll just cut a coil in the front. this truck does see some hauling..nothing crazy. Really just my extra run around truck so im not lookin to spend much. I found this bracket on ebay. Has anyone ever seen this or used it..If someone has one laying around can you hook me up with some measurements. Its just a piece of 3 inch C channel with a hole drilled in the bottom for the center pin You just leave the perch where it is and use this bracket after putting the springs on the bottom. What are your thoughts on this. thanks...how can you add a picture to the thread??? I will post a picture as soon as i can figure it out. Maybe someone knows what im talking about.

That is piece used for a flip kit.  You will need to notch the frame if you are looking to go that low and carry a load.
It is used like this:

When making a post at the bottom of the text field there is a link that says Additional Option... with a plus sign, just expand it to upload pics.

Thats exactly it..do you have any measurements on that piece, like how far back the hole is drilled and was the top angled to fix the pinion angle?.its gotta be cheaper to make...I mean a load like an engine or a few pieces of plywood..do you think id still need a notch? Im assuming stock shocks wont work there..what kind did you end up with? thanks for the reply. My additional options consist of notify me of replies, return to this topic, and don't use smileys.....thats it.

That isn't my truck, but I am using a flip kit.  I personally wouldn't put a flip on unless I notched the frame.
You can make them, but I don't have the measurements handy.  Basically you need to offset the hole enough to compensate for the driveshaft length.  As for shocks, I used shock extenders and used stock shocks.

Do you have a guesstimate on how much the hole needs to go back? thanks for the idea on the extenders. Is the angle enough to really worry about? What did you do with yours.

I think it is offset 1", I think I have a set that is going on my Jimmy that is still in the box, but I will have to find it to make the measurement.

The angle of the pinion is critical since it being wrong will wear out the u-joints and cause vibration problems.
