New Body Mounts = New Vibration

So today I finally got around to changing out the rotten rubber body mounts (the rear two I simply pulled apart/off by my bare hands), and I've now got a pretty good vibration esp. when initiating 2nd gear.    Once it gets up to speed the vibration goes away.  I do know that while jacking it up the fan touched the shroud, but I thought I caught it early/turned the fins. 
Did I probably mess the fan up?  Is there something else to look at/for?   Dont want to mess up my H2o pump!

So, its definitely not the fan.  Will probably have the rear drive balanced on Monday since it needs it anyhow (w/new joints). 
I get a little vibration in 1st, but most in second while "ramping" up, but very little in third gear.  The entire truck feels strange now that there are bady mounts.  Everything's accentuated.

Got both front and rear drivelines rebuilt with new u-joints at 6 States.  Evidently the rear was in such bad shape that they had to scrap the shortie.  The body mounts were so bad that I simply couldnt feel the vibrations. 
As long as the transmission/t-case hold up Im good as gold (all new/rebuilt)!

No problem KC.  Was simple enough to figure out, but it presented in an odd fashion.  A good reminder to keep track of your body mounts since they can disguise some significant issues!

Sounds like you do quite a bit of work on the ol rig. Its nice to see that there are people still out there wrenching on oldies but goodies.

Anyways, how did the cab mount job go? I need to do this to mine as well, and need to know what I am getting myself into...Did you have to disconnect the steering column? How about clearance issues with brake and fuel lines, etc.? Where did you go for the mounts, or the best place for these?

Cab mounts are a piece of cake to change.  ;)You just need to have a jack and probably a block of wood to support the cab as you pull out the old mounts.

Sounds easy so far, huh? Depending how old and rusty your bolts are, you may need to cut into the floor brace where the weld nut brakes off and starts turning with the bolt. This happens quite a bit. So much for the piece of cake.

You don't need to worry about steering columns,etc...  just rusty bolts.

Sorry about being out for so long.  Yeah, I got alot of stuff done to it now (everything under the chassis is now rebuilt/new-whew!).  All for my wife and her father who was the original owner...still waiting for a thank you, but doubt it'll ever come (colourfull words under my breath).  Body mounts are an EASY job, but takes a little bit of time (about 2 easy hours to do it right).  Its all just a TALL jack with some 2ft lengths of wood.  Unbolt all of them, and keep them in order.  Just do one side at a time to make it easy.  Energy Suspension sells the poly body chassis "kit" for cheap (I think I paid $55 at Schucks).  I was amazed at how rotted out the original mounts were!  Make sure you soak everything with PB Blaster.  Several came out by me just using my bare hands to RIP them out!  Truck went from riding like a piece of junk ready for the scrap pile to a solid rig.

I cant remember if there are two or four body mounts for the cab. But you can feel metal on metal on my truck when you go over some bumps. I know that I need to do the replacement cuz there is excess flex that you can see in the side mirrors, and I know that the bed needs them to. I have not done this before because I didnt want to get into something bigger than I thought. Plus its a daily driver and not sure how long the truck needs to be out of commission for.

So no disconnect of steering column...? I have read in the forum here that you simply rig up some 4x4's and jack up the cab just enough to get them out?

Dirty, did you need to loosen the tranny mounts or crossmember to do the mounts. If so, could the vibration be coming from the bolts needing to be re-torqued...?

i'm sorry too...i would have responded, and most likely with the same thing you figured out (that was the first thing that popped in my head as i was reading your first post) but i worked a LOT this week (Tuesday i worked 16.5 hours...from 7:30 am to 1 am) and 12 hours yesterday...with 8 hours Wednesday and Thursday...so i was too tired to type hello basically...glad to hear ya got it fixed man!

There's 6 mounts for the cab, and the bed bolts straight to the frame.  The cab mounts each consist of numerous parts (kinda silly design really).  No need to disconnect anything just so long as you dont go nuts!  Unbolt, jack up, slip some 2x4's in, knock out old/in, and bolt it back up!  BTW: the Energy suspension came with a few bolts, but I replaced all of mine to be safe.
I'll be doing this on my Cruiser in a few weeks as well.
