Cab corner speakers questions
« on: October 23, 2007, 02:31:46 am »
I've got a question/thought related to the corner speakers. Those are 4"x10"'s right, so could one cut it to fit a 10" sub, or would that curve in the cab be in the way, and how deep is the hole too? sorry if I thread jacked, it just popped into my head as I was reading this thread.

Yes the factory setup uses 4x10'.  There is no way you can put a 10" sub in that hole it is only about 6" wide at the largest opening.

well, it was just a thought. I figured you would have to cut it to fit though, but even then it still might not fit in right.

i put 6x9s in the corners. its not hard, you just have to fabricate it so that there is no open space and cut a few inches out to the side for the 6-ich part so it wont hit the metal

6x9's would be good. Do you have pics of how you did it so I can see what you did to make them fit?

A lot of people have flipped the stock 4x10 bracket from each side and put 6x9's in there.  I know bigblock73 had a custom 6x9 mount he was thinking about making to sell...

I yanked some old speakers that had individual plastic boxes out of a wreck at the junk yard,  tore out the old speakers from the box, enlarged the holes to fit the 6 x 9s and used a bit of heavy duty velcro to hold em still. Ran the wires long enough so as to be able to set them outside for tailgating and such.

Hit or miss on finding something similar at the boneyard or yardsale but you may be able to find good new ones as "marine" or "outdoors"speakers. Another option to think about...

That is bigblock73's (Jeff) that I was talking about.  He is planning on getting some of those made to sell.

I'd make it out of MDF or fiberglass if you can, metal is not very good for mounting speakers in if you're concerned about sound quality...especially a larger full range speaker like a 6x9. It resonates an awful lot.

yes. And it will need to be well sealed in order to keep the sound quality from being effected. Maybe even some poly-fiber filling inside to keep the sound from traveling somewhere you don't want it to. If you do use metal, consider using some sort of felt or something to line the inside of it.

Might want to take a look @ Crutchfield.com, They have 6x9 boxs made up and they evan have them ported too.

Just like the 4x10's that were there, you don't need to seal 6x9's...
