ANOTHER wheel question

Thinking of running 18's on the back, 17's on the front of my 79 shortwide.
Has anyone run a wheel wider than 10 inches in the rear without leaf spring interference issues?
I don't mind "tubbing" the existing wheel tubs but I'm not getting into relocating my springs inside the frame. I've already lowered it 3/4 with spindles, hangers and shackles.
I'm after the deep look on the rear.
I think these are what I plan to buy.

It has been a while since I have measured one out, but see if you can get a 10" wide wheel with about 5" of backspacing and mount it (without the tire) on the truck and measure you clearances.  Each truck will be a little different, but you need at least an inch of clearance on the inside and outside for suspension travel.  You should be able to fit a 12" wide wheel in there though with the right backspacing.

That's kind of what I was thinking. The fun part is getting the wheel I need to take the measurements. most places don't want to "loan" one out. Thinking of that Percy's wheel'tire fitment tool. It's 80 bucks but probably worth the $$$$. Thanx for your input.

You can actually make yourself one of those with a piece of thin board.  Just cut it in a circle at the diameter of the wheel you want and mount it to the hub.

See, this is with a stock wheel that I am assuming is 8 inches wide. The tire size is 295/50/15.

I'm thinking I GOTTA GET MORE tire in there! 


I'm sure somebody on this site has done this....18x10 or 18x12 on the rear.....shout out, give us the answer ! (and tire size you used). I want a fairly tall tire to help fill the wheel well. Needs to like like the one I have posted earlier on this thread.

I think Vile has 305 or something like that.  You should be able to get a 12" in there...

The only real issue I can see is that there may be a problem with the E-brake cable with a deep offset wheel. It may hit. That and the fact that wheels and tires of that size cost so much !
