wow dude, i thought this was gonna be easy...i thought for SURE they made nerf bars for these trucks...but i honest-to-God can't find 'em...i'll keep lookin because i want 'em myself darnit!

I had a set of those gay U shaped step up bars, but I would love a set of full lenght nerf bars for my truck, Especially if she gets any taller!!

oh yea man, i definitely want some of the full-length nerf bars...they were part of my plans...heck, i'll get  a set that are the right length and MAKE them fit if i have to...

I'm pretty sure they make then for the 88+ Chevy/GMC pickups I don't see why those wouln'd fit, or be made to fit.

I bought a set of chrome ones off e-bay last year for my 87. I think I paid $140 shipped.

Why not make a set of rock sliders instead? serve the same purpose, as well as add protection if you wheel heavily..the set I made for a friend's '85 f150 held up better than the rest of the truck..he bashed em til he stopped driving the truck because there was nothing left of the floorpans..the seat wasn't anchored to anything anymore, so he decided the truck was a little hazardous to drive.

Essentially, they're nerf bars on steroids. They anchor to the frame and protect the body from boulders, banks, whatever you happen to drop the bottom edge on. They also work for steps. The ones I made were 3" square tube steel, and would support the full weight of the truck..you could use a frame hoist on the sliders and lift the truck without worry. I've heard of people filling the tubes with concrete before welding the ends closed, for even greater strength, but that adds lots of weight.

Yeah I too thought about that for my '77, till I remembered that the dual tanks on my '89 K2500 were mounted inside the framerails, where as the 73-87 Pickups(and 91 Subs) have them mounted on the outside.  The Earlier tanks are in the way the bars aft mounting positions(Hence the U-Hoop Nerfs).  There are full length nerfs for any Standard Cab/Blazer/Jimmy/Suburban that has a single rear mounted tank, and I want to say they are the same ones as the 88-98's.

Yeah, I WAS going to weld up some sliders on the truck until I crawled under it to take some measurements...decided to forget about it for now.  I got too much else to do!  Those gas tanks are situated just enough to be a hazard.

yep, the gas tanks are in a HORRIBLE spot on our trucks.  that's the reason we can't find nerf bars...but i figured out the trick.  relocate the tank and order nerf bars for a K5 Blazer...problem solved!

edit...i went to look for K5 Blazer nerf bars and d@mn if i didn't find 'em for OUR TRUCKS!  just look on this page...yea, they are "out of stock" for the shortbed guys but i bet they'll get more...

Smittybuilt huh?  That's a shame...Havent seen a set older than 6 months without rust issues.
