forgot how much fun IROCs are!!!!
« on: December 09, 2007, 09:18:20 pm »
After roughly 4 hours of brutality, my brothers 88 iroc finally has new rotor, inner and outer wheel bearings, inner bearing seals, and new brake pads. We had a lovely screw-up on the drivers side when the lower caliper bolt wouldn't tighten up and we found out that the threads were messed up real bad....a heli coil (spelling?) later, and she's good to go, for now. He's gotta pick up another spindle from the guy we got his engine from locally, and then install that and get an alignment. I had an 89 as my first car, and I really forgot what a blast these cars are. That L98 TPI motor has got some monster torque! I've put a lot of my blood, sweat, and tears into getting that car ready for him by his prom earlier this year, and I love it how he bought it for 800 bucks with a spot free body and a blown l98 in it, and here it sits just over a year later with about 2200 invested and it is one mean machine.

oh yea man, lemme tell ya...i have had some FUN in those cars!  i have had 5 3rd gen F-Bodys (i LOVE the 3rd gens)

first one i had was an '82 Trans Am with t-tops.  it was black and local cop cars couldn't catch it...for we had shoehorned a 455/Th400 in it...hehehhe (oh, with the cops thing...i knew a cop and that's how i knew...didn't really outrun an actual pursuing cop)

then i had a '92 Camaro RS 25th Anniversary edition with t-tops (TBI 305, 700R4)...it was red like your bro's car

then i had an '87 Pontiac Firebird Formula WS6 with a TPI 305/5-speed combo (never underestimate those cars...they came with the L98 cam-having the factory manual made that happen-and they had less drag with the manual than the 350 did with the 700R4.  stock for stock, i'll bet you pinks a TPI 305/5-speed will stomp a 350/700R4 car...i've done it many times)...she was ugly but that was part of her beauty...3.45 geared posi rear end, WS6 suspension, aluminum driveshaft...heheh, this car was a ROCKET for being stock...here it is sans engine right after my friend bought it...

after that i had an '89 IROC-Z with a TPI 305/5-speed...it was black with t-tops and was LOTS of fun

then i got an '86 Z28 with the *arrgh* LG4 305/700R4.  i yanked off the computer controlled carb/distributor and put on a Holley DP 650 and Weiand intake with vac advance distributor and that wee lil 305 woke right up...then blew 3 weeks later...i had pics of it, trying to find them again...

and my last (for now) F-body was an '88 Camaro SC (the only year the lowly SC got factory GFX)...short story with this one...i got it as a project car (TBI 305, blown 700R4) and about 2 weeks later the former owner gave me a sob story about why she needed the car and i gave it back to her...didn't have t-tops and had body issues anyway...

i love these cars and WILL have another...someday...would look really good towed behind my GMC when i get it like i want it...
1991 Chevy Silverado K1500 ECSB, 350, 700R4 w/shift kit, 3.42's, exhaust work...
1983 GMC Sierra K1500 SWB-sold :(
