I just got new ball joints for my 75 k10 and I was wondering what the ball joint adjustment sleeves do.

The djustment sleeves are what set the knuckle in place and provide a wear surface for the ball joint and should always be replaced. There is a special tool for this. Soak the old ones really good with penetrant. The new one will torque to 70lb/ft then to 100lb/ft.

I bought mine at advance auto parts for like 10 or 15 bucks, IT will look like an impact socket with like a 1" hex bolt head at the top and 4 little prongs at the bottom. It is about 2.5" long and about as big as a 12 gauge shotshell.
