I built my rear bumper from I beam. I didn't take very many detailed pics though.
The large round holes are for rubber mounted sealed beam tractor lights.
The odd ball hole off set to the left is for my 7 prong trailer plug.
With POR 15 on it.
With SEM brand spray on bed liner on it.
I bolted stock bumper brackets to to factory mounting holes, I cut them off a few times before I liked where the bumper sat in relation to the bed. I already had a class 5 hitch bolted on the truck. I welded the I beam to it and ran 45 degree braces in from each end to the hitch. Now the hitch and bumper have 10 bolts mounting it to the frame, instead of 6 and 4.

If it was a wheeling truck I would have mounted the plate off to one side, and put a roller fairlead where my plate is, & and a winch under the bed. Its a plow truck and I have an 8000 lb winch that goes in the 2" receiver if I get hung up. Keep it in the tool box otherwise. I have a 2000 lb electric crane that mounts on the plate in the corner of the bed. I wired it so it can be unplugged and the winch plugged in.
I used to have a truck that had a piece of 10" channel iron smooth side out for a rear bumper. I would have mounted it smooth side in but it was already there when I got the truck. I got pulled over for a tail light out, the cop ended up giving me a DE tag ( defective equipment, has to be fixed in 24 hours or you get a real ticket ) For the tail light, mud flaps not close enough to the ground, & a whole bunch of crap about the fact that my rear bumper was to strong / over built, not factory installed. Said if someone were to hit me it could cause them serious harm, that the OEM bumpers are made to cushion the impact etc. etc. blah blah blah. I pointed out to him that my plow frame was not factory installed, and allot more rugged than a front bumper! He was going to give me some sort of sumons for it until I told him he better be giving the same sumons out to every one that has a plow frame mounted on the front of their truck. That I would bring picture evidence to court with me if he did to present to the Judge.

I was told by a police officer that my bumper wasn't wide enoungh it was a 10" drop made by westin he said he could give me a ticket for that but I asked him that when these trucks were new you could get them w/no rear bumper so I fixed it and put on a rollpan besides that if someone rearends you isn't that there fault it is in Ohio.

I probably would have gotten an actual ticket for the tail light..I would have told him where to stick his yammering about the bumper. My old deep drop chrome bumper looked more or less factory, but if anything had hit it, it wouldn't have done more than scuff it. I almost dropped it on myself when I swapped it out, it had to weigh ATLEAST 120 lbs. Besides, on every 73-87 I've looked at closely, the rear bumper wouldn't do anything to "cushion" any impact..The chrome step bumper I have on my truck now is the lightest I've seen on any of em, and it would do some serious damage to anything that rearended me.
Yep, in almost every state, if you're straight and moving forward and somone hits you from behind, they're 85% at fault. You'll be 15% at fault for just being there.
