No, I just laid down some plain old corrugated cardboard (cut to fit) and one of those self inflating mattresses.  I hadn't "roughed it" in years, but definitely had the best sleep in a tent ever

BTW, I searched on Ebay but found the best price was through Costco online.

Thanks for the info. I'll be buy Mopac tomorrow so I'll inquire. I see on the POR website that they give you a shutz gun in the kit. That's cool and I like that it uses a shutz gun rather than a regular paint gun to spray it out. Shows that it's thick like an undercoating. With the 1 gallon of product they give you, how thick do you think you could have done the bed floor, after you did the bedsides and tailgate? How many coats did you put on?

My truck has some kind of what I believe to be roll-on bedliner in it. It's sticking okay but some has scratched off and it's discolored some. It is 8 years old though. The tailgate was done in a different product it seems, since it's of a better texture and seems more durable.

Oh, it's thick alright.  I sprayed it on at about 40 PSI and really just had barely enough to cover the entire bed.  It's probably only about 1\8 inch thick on my bed floors, but then again I'm not intending on abusing my truck too bad. 

My only complaint would be that one gallon isn't really enough if you want to do a real thorough job.  Another quart would have been nice.

Well, my tranny finally packed it in and unfortunately it wasn't something I really wanted to monkey with myself.  Took it to a local shop who specialize in transmissions, and they completely rebuilt it as well as replaced other misc parts.  So far I'm pretty satisfied with the results although the cost did sting a bit

Also it's nice to know that my transmission is a TH400 so when it does come time for me to think about replacing the power plant, I'll have a lot of options available.

Did some research and the shape of the pan also confirms that it's a TH400.  The TH350 has a more distinct "square" shape with the corner notched out.

Hello,

Have been offline for a few years so thought I’d just update “My Ride” with most recent photos taken last year.  Here’s summary of upgrades since my last post in 2009;

1. Replaced valve guide seals.  Sorry no pics but think I referred to some of  DIY posts here for help.  Messy job but well worth it since I’m no longer getting a big cloud of blue smoke when starting up.  The 4.3 litre V6 engine still runs strong and will probably last as long as I own her.

2. Although I had painted with the POR-15 silver painted at the beginning, over time was noticing they were taking on an odd shade so I decided to repaint wheel rims to match the two-tone paint.  Had some paint left over so just borrowed a paint gun from my friend who painted the truck.  After a light sanding, I sprayed on a good base coat and then after allowing to dry overnight, sprayed on a couple coats of clear. IMO, it made a big difference!

3. Replaced the “DIN” radio with a “shafted” radio that was era correct.  Tricky job b\c I had to use my MIG welder to add some plates back into the dash opening so I could properly mount the shafted radio.  Not a hard job when the interior is stripped down but definitely more challenging when you’re trying to prevent sparks from burning the interior and/or causing a fire.  Happy to report that after laying down a lot of wet towels, job completed w\o damaging my interior 

4. Swapped out the front grill with era correct GMC grill which I got from my son’s 86 Sierra Classic short-box he had last year.  Luckily I swapped the grill before he got into an accident that wrote off his truck  .  Son was OK but it’s too bad about his truck b\c it was real nice and had lots of potential!

She’s still WIP but now I drive her sparingly as I’ve been taking her off the road for the Winter’s since 2009.  All in all, still a very reliable truck as I won’t hesitate taking a full load to the dump, taking her camping, or if needed can be my daily driver while not emptying my wallet at the gas pump.

Just a thought on insurance; if you can qualify for collector car insurance you can save a huge amount of money, something to look into anyway. I insure my truck with jc Taylor for 176 a year that is full coverage with no deductable and a 15k agreed value payout if i have a total loss with the option to buy it back. Standard car insurance may leave you underpaid if you have a total loss. standard insurance will use a "stated value" which doesn't guarantee the amount stated. The requirements can be difficult to meet, but if you qualify you could really save and keep it insured year round. Very nice work on the truck.
