What happened...
« on: January 19, 2008, 08:42:45 pm »
to an old truck you had and you wrecked it was why you don't have it anymore...

I saw a couple a people who had close calls in their classic chevy and wondered who else had also.  My truck didn't fail me and I'm still here, so I got another one (my 78). Just wondered who else had close calls but their chevy held true and kept em from being dead.

I wrecked mine in 7-2007  going 60mph trying to go around some jackass who waited for me to be like 200 ft away and decided to pull out ointo the highway and go like 10mph... And then I went backwards off a 10 foot drop and rolled it, into a tree nursery, and they didn't even stop to help.  Next time I'm gonna plow right into whoever does that crap...

Man that is terrible, glad your ok. I know what you mean about stupid drivers I drive over a 100 miles a day and have to deal with all kinds. My wife says I've really calmed down with my road rage though I think she is being sarcastic ha ha.

good LORD Kenny!  i had been curious as to what that truck looked like after the wreck but man, you tore that one up, didn't ya?

ok, anyhow, i don't have any pics because i've never really wrecked one of these.  i did rear-end a Dakota in my '79 C10 but it was ok (despite having no front bumper) and that didn't end our "relationship"...so i'll "briefly" outline what happened to all my C/Ks...kinda in order...

1. 1979 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe SWB, 305/Th350...bought it for $300 and to date it was one of the best trucks i ever owned...not because it was "pretty" (heck, it had a stop-sign for a floorboard...thank God i didn't get pulled over in that one...) but because it was strong (you wouldn't believe it was a 305...i THINK it was...it might have been a 350...didn't really check, i was young...even if i was a gearhead).  anyhow, i found an '83 K10 i wanted so bad because it was 4wd...it was $700 (wasn't worth but about $300...but i was young) and i wanted it.  well, my dad/stepmom wanted my truck, so he said he was gonna buy my truck for $700.  he gave me $300 and i never saw the rest...truck was totalled (have no pics though, i've never seen it) by my stepmom...

2. 1979 Chevy K30 Silverado, 468/SM465/NP205...bought it for $1,000 with a messed up 454.  only had about 50k original...got it from the original owner who only drove it to church on Sunday.  i guess the original thermostat (yes, i did say original) got stuck and he can't read a temp gauge (it worked...) and cooked the motor.  so my grandpa and I rebuilt the motor (this was my money...my credit wasn't good enough for the Bank of Mom and Dad) and bored it into a 468.  it had Dart Iron Eagle heads, big (forgot specs) Lunati custom-ground Cam, 850 CFM Edelbrock carb/intake combo and a lot of other goodies.  i had it for a while but sold it because i was working and with it as my only ride i couldn't survive.  it was gorgeous...blue/white two-tone, single rear wheel, power windows/locks, factory buckets, factory tach, factory delay wipers...man she was gorgeous...ended up lifting it 13" (10" Superlift, 3" BL) and running 44" Super Swampers with a Detroit Locker in the rear and a Auburn Posi front.

man, this isn't gonna be brief...oops...oh well, ya come on here to read, right?

3. 1979 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe LWB, 327/3-speed...engine was actually from a totalled '63 Vette.  had camel hump heads and man that truck would boogie.  anyhow, this was the one i rear ended the Dakota.  i didn't realize it (it was dark and it was raining) but my radiator had been punctured.  spun a main bearing and cooked the engine...put in a 305 and good front clip and after using it a while longer i just sold it...it was originally a 250/3-speed truck with pretty much no options...

4. 1975 Chevy K10 Custom Deluxe LWB, 350/Th350/NP203...overpaid for this truck and it needed way too much work...being that i'm bipolar and really indecisive i sold it...cheap...pretty much gave it to a friend and he's been working on it slowly for a few years...he's about done with it IIRC.

5. 1976 Chevy C10 Silverado SWB, 350/Th350...this truck was so nice and i miss it so bad.  it was the definition of '70s muscle truck.  it was black with dark tinted windows, i had done a shackle flip so it had a mean stance...had nice wide tires on rally wheels.  i'm not sure what all was done to the 350 in it (bought it like it was and the guy before me did too...a lot was lost in translation...it had ported heads, Weiand intake, Holley carb, <insert name here> cam, Flowmaster knock-off exhaust) but that thing HAULED @$$.  i didn't wreck this one, my now ex-wife did...because she had to pee.  she bent the frame all outta whack and i never got it quite right again.  so i sold it mostly for parts...that engine made a certain '86 Z28 extremely fast...lol...had pics of this one before and after but my ex-g/f decided to get rid of all my old pics when we split up...i was in Iraq, nothing i could do but get mad...

6.  1976 GMC K-2500 SSWB, 350/Th350/NP205.  this was referred to as "the concoction".  because it was a 1976 GMC K1500 cab, a 1978-1991 K-Blazer/Jimmy frame, a 14-bolt FF rear, a D44 front with 8-lug outers, a 350, Th350, Np205, flatbed rear, exhaust pipes up the rear of the cab, Mustang II floor shifter...Mustang II seats...Hummer Bias-Ply tires...you get the idea...had about 8" of lift or so...this one got sold to a friend because it basically helped end my already-failing marriage.  so i got rid of it in a futile attempt to save something that was already lost...shoulda just kept the truck...

7.  1986 Chevy K5 Blazer, 379/700R4/NP208.  got this "parts rig" in hopes of saving it and having a K5 Blazer FINALLY.  ran out of money (divorce is expensive) and time (got towed in the barracks parking lot...my 1SG was a F*rd fan...)

8. 1987 Chevy K10 LWB, 262/700R4/NP208.  see above...

9. 1978 Chevy K20 SWB, 454/SM465/NP205.  this was my lifted, red shortbed with the cowl hood and the flames.  i've posted the pic many times on here.  started life as a K10 SWB with a 350/SM465/NP205.  ended up with a 14b FF rear, D44 front with 8-lug outers, 11" of lift (8" suspension, 3" BL), 38" tires (needed bigger), 454/SM465/NP205...this one, too, went away because of a woman...my current g/f.  but, it wasn't her fault...in fact she begged me not to...she loved it.  but she lived in Ashdown, AR and i was in Ft. Hood, TX.  we wanted to see each other most every weekend so i needed something a little better on fuel.

10. 1983 GMC K1500 SWB, 305/700R4/NP208.  my current truck, 78,500 original miles.  i don't plan on this one going anywhere for a long time...

1991 Chevy Silverado K1500 ECSB, 350, 700R4 w/shift kit, 3.42's, exhaust work...
1983 GMC Sierra K1500 SWB-sold :(
