updated power window help....
« on: February 04, 2008, 01:37:30 am »
see post below at bottom...

and i'm going to buy the OPP window kit (1 solid window)....what do i need in order to convert my manual windows to power?  i know the 73-87 store has some things, but i don't know what all i'd need to buy.  i'm not worried about the door panel ( i can make do for now), but wiring harness or what else?  would my best bet be to go to a junk yard at just get them from there?  or will it not fit with the one piece window?

thanks, joey.

Not sure about the one piece window option, I can't see why it wouldn't. As far switching to power windows you need the regulators, the wire harness all the way to the fuse box, the door jamb boots. Its a plug and play deal.

We sell everything to convert them to power including the window kit:
Window Kit: http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=7&Product_Code=OPP7387&Category_Code=7T
Power motor: http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=7&Product_Code=GM01-K&Category_Code=7T
Switch/harness: http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=7&Product_Code=4990-10-356&Category_Code=6T

If you go to a salvage yard, get the regulators, and the wiring harness from the donor (it is a separate harness), and all the bolts/boots from the donor also.
The kits were designed to work with factory regulators.

ok, which are the regulators?  i thought that what was pictured with the power motor? i'll go to the junkyard and see if they have a good powerwindow setup.  i've had pretty good luck with that yard and he's easy on the prices.  any idea when the windows will be out of backorder?  thanks capt. chaos!!

the regulators are what the power motor assembly is connected to.
They are supposed to start shipping again in 8 days.

do manual cabs have all the openings cut for the harness to pass through to the doors? my 87 didn't have any of the holes my replacement has. i didn't look to see if there was dimples or marks to make the holes.

No openings, but the dimples are there, 3 of them. the center one is for the large hole and the outer two are for the rivets/screws to fasten the boot. Got to take the door off to get to them though.

The holes are not in the door or the outside of the cab for obvious reasons on non-power setups, but once the holes are there everything will go on.

well, i just went ahead and bought some suburban doors with p/w and p/l.  i was supposed to get the harness that connected the two front doors right? ( i did cut the wires that went to the back doors...)  i would think that since my truck is a silverado without power, that the wiring and harness would be there, just need to hook up to it.

anyways, when i went to the junk yard, i ran into an '89 iroc-z convertible that has been slightly banged up, but all 4 tires are bad bad...top needs some help and interior needs some cleaning, but pretty clean (repainted tho)...

i hate income tax...money spent before i got it!!!!

the harness won't be there unless you have power windows.  It takes about 10 minutes to get it all out, 5 taking the boot of one door and another 5 on the other door.  The harness actually unplugs everywhere else.

ok...so the doors (suburban power fronts) are on and the 3 connectors on the driver and the 2 on the passengers are connected to the wiring harness i pulled out from the suburban.  again, i cut the wires going to the rear doors (don't need them) well, i have 1 orange, 1 pink and one black wire.  when i pulled them from the suburban fuse box, the orange and pink were plugged into it.  i don't remember where i got the black one from.  where do i put that one?  a schematic i saw when i searched power windows shows the black and pink, nothing about an orange line.  also, this guy told me i needed to buy a solenoid to  make the power locks work.  the solenoid has 3 male terminals on one side and a 2 post male terminal on the other.  what hooks up to that??? thanks for any help or pictures or coming over to do it for some money!!! lol....again, thanks.

thats your ground wire. it should plug onto a little ground bus thing under the dash on the drivers side next to the cluster. it will be a metal thing with about 6 metal tabs sticking off of it, bolted to the body. if you look through the hole in the corner next to the headlight switch, you will see it. there should be a wire or two on it already(depending on if your truck is 4x4 or has other options. if you don't have that just ground it to anything metal on the dash.
