High Sierra and Standard Height Differences
« on: February 07, 2008, 02:12:29 pm »
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the difference in Height was between a '77 High Sierra model, and Standard Sierras/Chevy's of the time???  Been thinking about doing a 2.5"-3" Lift over my trucks current height, but since I have heard a few people say that a 2.5" lift is basically Stock Springs + an Add A Leaf(Which it almost looks like my truck already has), I want to make sure that I wouldn't be just replacing what I already have, or making it lower!

Aside from the Tires(I think an Inch or two over stock), my truck seems like it is already taller than other "Stock" 4wd Chevy's/GMC's....

High Sierra has nothing to do with the suspension, it is a trim level - RPO Z62.  It is 1 level up from standard and 2 levels below top of the line for 75-81's ( 1 level below top of the line on 82-87(91).

Thanks for the reply Capt, guessing the previous owner did put a lift on it at some point, but just never mentioned it to my Father-In-Law(From what I was told, it was an all Original Truck, but things don't add up here and there!)....

Being a 1977 K series I wouldn't doubt it.  What size tires are on it?

BFG M/T 255-85-R16 is what it currently has, don't know how that converts to the Early Size Ratings that were in use when the truck was new....

those are roughly 32" tall.  The biggest ever from the factory were 31's.

I was coming up with around 33.067/33.1 average for what I currently have, and guessing roughly 30/32 for the Factory Size...  My truck still seems like it is an 1/2 to 1" or more, on top of the tire size difference from stock, atleast in comparison t other "Stock Height" trucks I have seen...

A few Tire Height Calculators:
