Rust repair

I have an 86 K20 that has a couple spots in the door jam that are were the inner cab metal meets the outer cab metal. I have been thinking that I would just weld the spots up and re seam seal the the whole jam. Is this the right way to fix this? There are only a couple spots that are maybe 2 inches long and about as wide as the original seam sealer bead. Is it likely that there are more problems in this area that haven't shown itself yet and will continue to have spots pop up over time?

Dwg, Your plan sounds fairly realistic if the outer cab corner is still good. Rust is a tough thing to beat. Anytime you have an overlap it's prone to be a problem. Take a look on the backside of the inner cab corner for more damage on that seam where it meets the rocker also, it's the same piece. I would advise taping off all of the area you want to leave paint on & use a small sandblaster to clean the seam out. You will never really get it all until you peel up the outer layer, but I would save that job for when it really needs it. Lorne

My cab corners are going to have to be replaced also. Where I'm talking about is actually in the door jam about were the striker is for the door latch.

I would suggest cutting out the rust and welding a piece in.  It is hard to visualize where you are talking about, can we get a picture?

The area that I'm talking about is if you had the door closed and looked in the gap between the door and the cab you would be able to the area I'm talking about. There is a bead of seam sealer that runs all the way around the door jam in this area. One spot on my truck is about even with the door handle and another about 6 above it.
