Good engine building books

What are some well respected and easy to follow engine building books out there? I'm considering doing my head and cam swap myself but I always like to research something before I get into it. I've rebuilt a 305 before back in high school, where we took it out of a trashed 79 LWB 2wd and replaced my buddies 305 HO in his 83 Z28. It ran well and never blew up so we did something right     That was 15 years ago though.

I'm on the fence whether to yank the motor or do it in the truck, but at least I'd like to start nosing through something to see if it's a task I want to tackle or leave it to a shop or mechanic I can trust.

Well, anything by David Vizard is good;  I think the book is called "How to rebuild your small block chevy."

There's another book entitled, i think, "Rebuilding the small block chevy" and i think one of the author's last name is Atherton.  You'll have to give me a few days to look up the exact details, but this is, i feel, another good book and i think it may also come with a DVD.

I used to have the "how to rebuild a small block chevy book" which is a good one also, it may be the one previously mentioned.

I have the one pictured. It is great for the cautious "new" builder. Has a lot of good organization tips, and some detailed "work along note sheets". It has some sneaky tool advertising built into the narrative, but overall a good book. I am a book nut, and I always keep this one on the bench.

i recently picked up the book thats pictured also. its a pretty good book and an advertisment for snap-on lol. i bought it because im planning on building a 350 for my truck but everyone around me thinks that its a bad idea and will cost to much/wont run when finished lol. im still planning on rebuilding one tho

That's a lot of recommendations all for the same book, so there must be some truth to it. I'll definiltely look for it!
