How much should I sell my car for?
« on: February 24, 2008, 01:13:57 am »
I have bought many cars and have never sold one yet.  I am trying to sell a 1987 covette.  The vehicle is in decent condition but has been sitting for about 8 months.  Not sure if it will start but it has a LOT of mods to the motor/tranny.  The only defect it has are the glass top is cracked down the middle and there is a small crack in the fiberglass door on the drivers side about 3 inches long.  Kelly blue book says it should list around 4,500.  I was thinking about asking 4000 for it and seeing what happens.  Anyone have any advice for a first time seller?

Maybe go on Craigslist and search for similar cars. See what they are asking / getting?
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Throw it on Craigslist for $5000 and see if you get any calls. The more time you have to sell it , the more you can get if you hold out. Corvette values will only go up I'd amagine.

The market is kinda low on c4s right now.  Personally, Id hang on to it (mainly since everyone seems to be ditching theirs). Otherwise, starting with 5k and letting them drop you a little seems like the best plan.  Id love to find a 84-85 I could just tinker with for a bit.

Today i decided myself after this truck is done to buy a vette i like the c3s and c4s you can do alot on the c5s like take a 91-6 nose cap and rear bumper from a 92 and put it on a 86 n ya got a nice modified car.i am considering a 79--82 and maybe a 84-90 eventually once i get the stepside done.Id say go for 5k and go from there.BTW where are you located?

First, please describe completely and in detail all the "MODS" to the engine and transmission.  Modifications many times tend to bring the value down, especially with Corvettes.

Also, getting the car to start will almost assuredly bring more money and make the car easier to sell.

Look around on http://forums.corvetteforum.com/ to see what others are asking.  I agree with the above in saying the early C4's are dropping in value because of the C5/C6's.  I own a 00 FRC Vette, I wanted a 67 when I was looking for one, but couldn't justify buying one for $80K and not driving it, so I dropped $30K on the FRC since there were less than 2500 of them made that year.  And I don't think twice about driving it anywhere.

The mods arent too bad.  Its basically a ZZ-4 crate motor with just about every bolt on I could find for a TPI motor.  Trans was just rebuilt.  There is a crack in the roof glass and a crack in the drivers side door.   I tried to start it today and it cranked and cranked but no fire.  Need to check spark and fuel and see whats going in there.  I am asking $4000 for it and we will see what happens.  if it doesnt sell soon I might give in to putting the suspension on my truck. ;D  And I am located in California near fresno.

ya I was thinking bout EBAY but I dont wanna pay for it and not have it sell.  Plus I keep thinking of more and more things that are on the vette that I can use on the truck...lol.  The manifold I found out is worth about 1500.  That might be a good swap for my little ca legal 4bbl on the truck.  The harness is in good shape and it has a custom chip.........plus corvette suspension :o

Ill just wait it out and see where I am getting sent when I get my orders.  Might be closer to people when I get to my next station.
