Tranny going in today - Any tips?

Have gathered all the parts needed to start putting the Jimmy back together today, the plan was to lift and install the 700R4 first, then install the NP208, then start plumping and hooking up any and all associated parts.

Was thinking about installing a temp sending unit and a auxiliary tranny cooler while doing this project, any suggestions for this will be appreciated.

First things first will be to install the new TV Cable into the transmission.  My tranny guy automatically installed the correct spring for my TV cable and told me all I have to do is remove the stock cable and replace it with the new cable that came in my TV Cable Kit.

It's kind of bulky and heavy, another friend recommended to me to put in the tranny first and then the transfercase.  Just go back from breakfast with the family so going to start sciencing it out right now.

It's really easy to put in the tranny and get it all sorted out and then lift the much lighter TCase up there and bolt it up. That's what I did anyways. I like the jimmy by the way! It'll be awesome with overdrive!

Shazam!

They're both in.  Put the Transmission in first using an ATV Jack and a wood platform nailed up out of a sheet of plywood and some 4x6's to give us some extra lift.  Then backed up the wood platform, rolled the transfercase under the truck and up onto the ATV jack and repeated the process and the transfercase is now bolted in place.

Used the crossmember out of the 1985 Blazer to hold both components up in their perspective places and now just need to drill a couple of holes in the frame for bolts and it will be bolted in and buttoned up.

Looks like I need a Yoke for the output spline of the NP208 and then I'll have to have the original rear driveline shortened and mated to the Yoke.  At this time I'm looking for a Rear Yoke for my transfercase, the guy I bought it from may have it, don't know but will find out tomorrow.

Lots of hooking up and plumbing yet to do, but me thinks the hardest parts of this conversion are now behind us.

If the drivetrain is in, you are on the easy side.  Now is just nitpicky things...

Here's an update...

First, I need a slip Yoke for the rear output shaft on the 700R4

Rear Output Shaft on a NP208



Then I need the component that attaches to the Front Output Yoke that will then connect to the U-joints on the front driveline.

I have the front driveline and components from the original 4-Speed/NP205 Transfercase that came out of the truck but it doesn't look like any of these components are compatible with the NP208 Front Output shaft.






The top driveline is the original rear driveline out of the truck, will need to get the new Yoke mated to this one.  The lower drive shaft is supposed to be a front driveline out of the 1985 Blazer the transfercase and transmission came out of.




Will be checking with a truck wrecking yard and our local Pick & Pull on Wednesday for a yoke and the components I need for the front driveline as well as eBay and Craigslist.

Here's some shots of the process in case it helps someone else in the future.  This is an ATV Jack that we used for a Tranny Jack and then a Transfercase Jack, it worked really well actually.




After bolting the transmission to the back of the engine block, we used a motorcycle tie-down strap to encircle the transmission and then we suspended it using the handle to the ATV jack braced over the top of two floor jacks.  Worked pretty well and allowed us to remove the ATV Jack to move on to lifting the transfercase to the transmission.

Even with the ATV Jack we still needed to raise the ATV Jack and we did this by whipping together a wood platform out of some 4" x 6"'s and an old piece of plywood and a few nails.



And we still had to two step it using the Motorcycle strap to suspend and hold the transmission at the end of it's lift while we lowered the ATV Jack and stacked some chunks of 2x6's for a few more inches of lift.



It actually was pretty painless and the transmission more or less slid right onto the dowel pins coming out of the back of the block.
