is it a bad idea to re use gasket?

i'd say it just be better to spend a couple bucks and get a new set.

 You don't want to do that. $10 should get you new ones.

Yes never reuse a gasket to much chance for leaks your best just to it right the first time.
  a leak is a pain later plue that means you got to do all that work twice.good luck
