What year is it?
« on: March 04, 2008, 01:47:20 pm »
My buddy went after this truck last weekend,

and shot a picture of this one for me.

Based on the tail gate ( since that is all we can see... ) What year/s is it?
I am putting my money on 81-87, but i am having a brain fart about the GMC tail gate.

The shutter on the camera didn't open all the way, or we could have seen the front end....

could be a mixture of parts lol. Looks like no filler hole on passenger side so looks like an 80's bed, but has 70's mirrors.

It has the cargo light hanging on the back of the cab, what year did they start using them?
My 86 has it but my 81 doesn't. Was it option only?

Who cares if its cheap enough!!
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

my buddy also added that the front end was munched, and no engine and tranny.  Might get it cheap, but its a 10 hour drive....

75-76.
Cargo lamps were an option.  Started in 1973, available throughout the model years.

Hard to tell without seeing the front end. I can't see if it has the square gas door or if it is blank. I think the first year for the square door was 80 or 81. If it doesn't have a gas door on the left, i think it is pre 80. Not sure though. Capt????

81-87.  The bed appears to have the "sguared off" recess...whereas the 73-80 are more rounded and concave.

Gas door = 79-up.  73-78 = gas cap. (keeping in mind that 78 was the transition year)
Those mirrors were typically offered after about 78/79, or at least they weren't that popular after that...

Explain.... ???

Yes my 79 came with a gas door.  I think this truck is an 81-87 based on the location of the GMC on the gate.  Could have been swapped, but thats my assumption.

I seen your post on 67-72 there, and I kept thinking 73-80 but I agree if the price is right get it anyways. from the looks of it I'd love to have it, looks in great shape rust wise.

The tailgate on your truck in your signature has rounded off indentation where the CHEVROLET is. GMC is the same thing I believe. The newer trucks have a boxed in straight indentation.

It appears there is no gas door or gas filler at all for that matter on the right side so I would say that it is 81-87.

bowtieguy have you ever played golf at Weaver Ridge...I went to a reception there last fall beautiful place.
