sb to bb motor swap
« on: March 05, 2008, 10:40:15 am »
me and a friend want to take a 454 he picked up and drop it into his 78 mud truck, we have replaced many motors but it was always a 350 to 350 kind of swap. but for a 350 to 454 swap what is needed he has a built th400 and bullet proof np205 that will bolt right up and im pretty sure that he has chassie mounts for a 454 and we can get the block ones easy... but what about pullies and brackets for the alt. power steering ect... are they different??? and can we use the same alt, steering pump fan ect, and i take it the hei destrubter is different... any info would be great thanks

pwr steering bracket if different, but you can make it work with a little ingenuity. Dist is the same and will work, the smallbock alt and bracket just might work unchanged. The fan and pulleys should interchange just fine. all the stuff on the frame is the same, just the motor mounts are different, exaust hook up is different, too.

Many years ago, I put a 396 in a '79 305 c10, the only thing I had trouble with was the pwr steering bracket and I think I just cut a small piece of metal to bolt up the bracket to the block and other existing holes lined up.
