To rent something like that over here would be appx £2000-00+ yes £ not $ per month. Can I ask how much you pay roughly p/month?

I rent it. I would buy it but the guy wants way to much for it, plus there is no garage! It was built in the mid 1800's Not sure exactly. At one time it had about 500 acres, with 3 barns. Danbury was a cord wood / lumber, and dairy town.
They called it renovation but all they really did was a fluff and buff about 4 years ago. Allot of hack work done to it. It looks nice when you walk in if you don't know what to look for. No kick spaces under the cabinets. sprayed all the paint, so there is over spray all over the windows from the trim, 7 over spray all over the trim from the floors.
Its a slab house. built like a log cabin all the way to the peak, but out of 2x6s. The man that built it worked at a saw mill, he brought home all the seconds / short pieces, etc.
32 windows, three doors, & 3 acres of land.

That's a nice lookin place there, Blazin.  Must be fun trying to heat that big barn of a house though!  ;D

£2000-00 sterling is about $4200 on current exchange rate. I have no idea how much the average wage is there or how much a house would cost!

The average working salary in America is $34,000. The average house costs right about $200,000.

A white colar professional will make around $70k and a decent house for a two-income professional family will cost around $350k in Virginia

The average monthly rent in central virginia is $900 monthly for an apartment, or $1400 month for a house. One of the duties of my position in my county is conducting the evictions.  Our eviction numbers are way up there this year so far due to all the forclosures.  Many others are losing jobs and apartment evictions are up as well.  And Bitzer, here on this side of the pond, we law enforcer bobbies  carry guns.   ;D  Clubs just dont cut it against someone pointing a semi-auto at you.

I pay $ 1,200 a month, more than I like but! When I rented it we needed 3 bedrooms, this place is 4. But now I am living alone. I thought about moving the end of this month when my lease was up. Looked at two places with garages, but the owners said no welders or torches, or heat in the garages. So I figure why have a garage if you can't use it. So I am staying here.
Heat isn't to bad as I have a wood stove. Plus being a slab house its pretty tight.

holy crap, $4200 a month!! I bought a 3 bed 1 bath house in a nice neighborhood (for Shreveport) and my mortgage is $590 a month (bought it for $82,500), and it's a real nice ranch style slab foundation house. I've even got a big yard for being in the City, a hole half an acre. and $590 is high, where I grew up in Springfield, MO this house would have been like $75,000. A house like Blazin's down here would run about $900-$1100 range for a mortgage.

It has two basments. one in the rear left corner, about a 1/4 odf the house. Plus a root cellar under the front center area. The rest is crawl space.

My house has been valued recently at £210k which is about $400k dollars on current exch. I guess my whole boundary area is 12m x 25m including parking area and garden! No basement. Garage/workshop is 3m x 8m so the truck just fits with not a lot of room to work but its getting there!

I guess the average salary for a general worker is £20k and white collar is £45k+  I must be about the middle lol

Sweet place Blazin.  Sounds like a right tight cabin about the size of a small barn.  Land and houses are getting way too expensive out here in california.  I like where I live, but don't see how I can afford to retire here.

Land has gone throught the roof here, and the property taxes are stupid as well.
