Simple problem I'm sure
« on: March 19, 2008, 07:09:40 am »
Got a problem that has stumped me for a while now but have never tore into it like I should.

My front tires will not spin over when locked in.

I have checked the hubs and popped the diff cover off and everything seems to be ok to the naked eye. It will go into every range on the shifter and will allow the rear wheels to pull (4-lo is a slow crawl like normal) but the fronts will not turn over.

Anyone had this problem or know the cause? It has been bad weather here for a while plus work and I have not had a chance to tear into it.

Thanks

What case do you have? I am going to assume you have a 208 by your signature of " 81 Scottsdale 4x4 "under construction" " Sounds like there is something up in your transfer case if you didn't find any issues in the front dif. or your hubs.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Yeah it's a 208.

Might just leave it alone, I'm planning on doing the 4 spd/205 swap as soon as I find the parts.

Thanks

I hadn't read your intro in the welcome forum yet!

i have seen this where one hub locks but the other dont try locking the hubs but not the t case then turn driveshaft by hand if it dont turn the frontend is good unlock the hubs and lock in the tcase if you can still turn the shaft the case is bad or the linkage is not right. have seen a case go in low and high but the shifter not put it in 4 wheel. what case do you have?

I have a 208 case, I'll try that tomorrow. Weather is getting real nice here so I can tinker a little this weekend.
